A friend of mine gave me Mike's name 5 years ago. It took me 2 years to be mentally ready to commit to working out consistently. Best decision I ever made, been working with Mike twice a week for 3 years, after a few months my son started working with Mike as well. We both are in the best shape of our lives. When you are proud of what you see in the mirror you know you've made the right decision.
I've been working with Mike on a variety of different things for a very long time. I started with boxing in the 7th grade, I am now 21 and see him weekly for self defense training or stretching sore or tweaked muscles from work or other activities. What i like most about mike is that he feels more like a friend than a coach!
Mike is an excellent trainer-I am learning and advancing every session!
Mike is a high energy and very attentive instructor. I always enjoy our sessions and ifeel that i am learning a lot.
I started training with Mike five years ago. He prepped me before I had my hip replacement, strengthening the muscles surrounding it, which made the recovery a lot easier. Once I was allowed to go back to training, Mike began working with me on weights, stretching, and martial arts. I'm a 3rd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, but I'm also 65, and I needed to improve my stand-up work and self-defense skills, but on my body's terms. Mike adjusts his method to fit people individually, so I improved my game and achieved new goals, but without risking further injury. Unfortunately, I had a terrible accident this past winter, tearing both of my quadriceps tendons, but thanks to Mike's training, I recovered extremely fast for a man my age. I can't say enough about the way he works. The result is that you leave his space soaked with sweat, but not injured. I recommended him to friends who have started to train with him, including my doctor. My wife, Judith, and my daughter, Cameryn, are also now his clients. Camy trains with him via Zoom from Miami, where she lives. She hasn't found anyone who can compare to Mike in the entire city. That just about says it all.
I've had the privilege of training with Coach Mike for over 10 years now, and I can genuinely say that working with him has changed my life. From personal training and martial arts to simply shooting hoops and talking about life, Coach Mike has always been more than just a trainer. He's been a world-class coach, mentor, and someone who has consistently pushed me to become a better version of myself. Over the years, he helped me accomplish goals I once thought were out of reach, including losing over 100 pounds and completely transforming my health. But what made the biggest difference wasn't one workout, one diet, or one breakthrough. It was his ability to teach me how to compound small wins over time. He showed me that real transformation comes from consistency, discipline, and continuing to move forward one win at a time. Those lessons have gone far beyond fitness and have impacted the way I approach life. I'm incredibly grateful that I made the decision to work with Coach Mike all those years ago. Looking back, it was one of those decisions that completely changed the trajectory of my life and my health. More than 10 years later, I'm still learning, still growing, and still grateful to have him in my corner. Thank you, Coach Mike, for everything you've done for me and for the impact you continue to have on my life.
I have been training with Mike almost 10 years. I've had a few other personal trainers, but Mike has been the best when I first started with him. I was having some chronic back pain and Mike worked with me with stretching body mechanics and boxing and my back pain disappeared. Mike can look at me and tell me what is tight and alter my training session so that I get loose and I can really get the most out of my training session. Mike has a genuine interest in me and my well-being. Again the fact that I have worked out with him for over 10 years speaks for itself I never wanna give him up.
I began training with Mike while my husband and I were navigating his overwhelming health situation. My internist had explained the scientifically proven benefits of exercise for reducing anxiety and improving sleep, and at 66, I knew it was time to add more than walking to my routine. Mike listened carefully to my goals, including returning to water skiing after 30 years and starting pickleball and created a program focused on strength, balance, endurance, and confidence. I immediately felt comfortable with him and excited to begin. What stands out most is Mike's knowledge and creativity. He explains not only what we are doing, but why it matters. To prepare me for water skiing, he used resistance bands to create unexpected, real-time 'tow-line' disruptions, helping me practice stabilizing my core and maintaining balance - exactly the kind of quick adjustment skiing requires. He has done the same for pickleball, developing my balance, footwork, lateral movement, coordination, and confidence. I genuinely enjoy every training session - something I never expected to say. Mike has made exercise purposeful, challenging, and empowering. I am stronger, more balanced, less anxious, and sleeping better. I am also thrilled to have returned to water skiing after three decades. I could not recommend him more highly.
One of Mike's main strengths is his ability to adapt training to fit my needs. In the 6 years I've trained with him, I've been quite weak, injured, recovering from surgery, and relatively strong. My sessions, whether in person or online have changed to best move me forward.
Mike Is wonderful at working with people who are out of shape and have physical limitations. He explains what we're doing and why and where we're going in the future. He is the right mix of supportive and challenging. Mike is knowledgeable about body mechanics, nutrition, and motivation. He's also a heck of a nice guy.
Mike is an awesome coach with a diversity and depth of knowledge that is hard to find. As a physical therapist he's an elite trainer. As a lifelong martial artist he's a fountain of knowledge in terms of Filipino martial arts as well as arts from around the world. Take advantage of it!!! Train!!!
After my back surgery in 2013, I needed to find a trainer to help me strengthen my core. I found Mike. Since then he has provided me with the type of training and exercise program that has helped keep me fit all these years. Currently, I train with him online. He created a program specific to my needs. He is excellent and I recommend him without reservation.
Great to train with Mike again. I have to do it remotely now but I still get the same expertise and advice.
Great to be back training again with Mike after 15 months! We set a gradual training schedule to get me back and beyond whete I was before we had to stop. Mike will help get you into the healthy physical condition we should all strive to be in.
Excellent trainer. Will get you into shape. Dedicated and knowledgeable!
It was 2012, when I first trained with Sifu Almocera and realised immediately that he is a high caliber trainer. Extremely knowledgeable about techniques and has realistic scenarios of danger. He was adaptable to my needs of self-defense. Being out of the military for 30 years I lost my confidence to protect myself. Sifu motivated me with his patience and constant encouragement. He has kept me going with his challenging and changing practices. He is more than my coach. He is my mentor. Thank you Sifu.
it is very interesting to see how we build on the various punches in self defense. Every lesson brings me to fine tuning them and it feels more efficient. Thank you for your patience, Sifu.
I wasn't sure about online training sessions but it's working very well and i'm learning as well as getting a workout. Sifu's gym is well equipped with camera and clear audio so one gets good feedback from him even 6,000 miles away :))
I was hesitant to train on line however, there is no difference in the quality. I still get the best of Sifu. so, go ahead try it. I am abroad but when i return, I may just continue this when it is bad weather .
Patience, patience, patience- that is what one needs in order to learn a new skill. Such as in self defense. Sifu has this gift. A very patient and supportive guide, teacher and leader. I hold him in the highest esteem. Thank you Sifu Almocera.
perfect practice makes perfect performance. As tedious as it is to get every tiny technicality down, in executing an exercise, it is important for the sake of protecting ones body. when one is efficiently punching or lifting, it is less stress on the body and therefore less painful. - that is what I learnt from Sifu today., till the next time, practice perfectly and slowly.:)
Today I learnt how stretching can improve your movement. As usual, i go "kicking and screaming" to my self -defense workout...but am ALWAYS glad I pushed myself because i get a body AND mind workout. we fine -tune the movements to become more efficient and this feels better on the body and my mood is improved, as a result. thank you Sifu.
Sifu is not giving up on me, so neither am I:). working against the human instinct of turning away from what is hard for us, takes patience and practice. Have you watched small children that are learning a sport? when they see the ball coming towards them, they turn their heads away. They will have to learn that in order to play baseball or football , they will have to face the oncoming ball. Sifu is teaching me this exact concept in self-defense. Although scary and uncomfortable, when we face an attacker, we must not run or resist, but get in close, while keeping ones body relaxed, in order to thrust our natural strength on the attacker and get out of danger. It goes against our natural instinct , but he has proven to me over and over that this is abetter strategy than simply running away. If you want to be prepared for life's surprises- Sifu is the one to teach you how to do this.
coming back after two months absence was not as hard as i thought it would be ..and Sifu confirmed this. While i was away, i went over moves in my imagination and was pleased to see that i remembered the gist of things- get close to your enemy, as Sifu says: use them to balance you and use your body as a lever to get them out of your way. this is better understood when you practice it.
today i learnt how to get up from a fall. who doesnt need that training? unless you are 5years old.. .you'd be surprised at how much technique goes into getting up without injuring oneself. Sifu, with his observations of body movement , noticed that i cannot lean on my right arm to raise myself, so he adapted the lesson to my strengths - my legs -and within seconds i was up and stabilized. i am amazed at his knowledge and especially- my capability, i feel like a child who just learnt to stand on his own. challenge yourself!
I have not been able to train with Sifu for a few weeks and i miss it very much. I feel my responses are slower. for example, twice, i was surprised by someone approaching me. When I train with Sifu, we "sharpen" my response, so that I am not a jumpy nervous nelly but, just more aware of my surrounding. I guess i need more training...back we go.
I have begun to see improvement in my training of self-defense. I am just a bit less clumsy. In every session I learn something about myself, physically and mentally. The training curriculum is such that I am building confidence in my ability to ward off an attacker. I often get discouraged about how much more there is to learn however, Sifu is aware of this and as a Master Teacher helps me identify my accomplishments. Stay tuned for my next review, where I will compare learning self-defense to psychotherapy, my profession.
I am learning what makes a person able to defend themselves. Our instinct is to run however, that is probably not feasible for most of us. Working against that instinct is hard. When an attacker pulls you, your instinct is to pull away. Sifu is teaching me to get closer to the attacker in order to improve my chances of fighting them off. I am learning a combination of physics, how I can deliver a blow with more power and knowledge of anatomy- identifying an attacker's weakest links.
training with Sifu is not only physical. We are training for self- defense and a lot of that is mental preparation. I am learning about what makes a person better able to respond to an attacker. read my next review to find out...
I train with Sifu ( Mr. Almocera) to teach me practical self-defense. when he told me about his background and how he learnt to defend himself, i knew he could help me. I hope i never have to put my learning to the test but, i feel empowered and every time we meet, my self-confidence improves. He is preparing me for real life situations and doesnt give up until i perform the exercise properly. Thank you, Sifu for your passion and commitment!
Mike is calm and informative. He is definitely invested in me as a person. I can feel his care for me and the foundations he pays attention to are the same ones I avoided or ignored my whole life. He is correcting things and I dont even notice it. I definitely recommend him as an instructor. Cant wait to see my growth over the next year!
Another great workout with Mike / I always feel great after and never have any pain
Amazing workout
Mike is a great trainer. I am making progress!
Mike is a great trainer!!
1st off I've know Mike since 2017 when he 1st started out. I trained with him for most of 2017 then due to some back issues I stopped. Got back into training with him again and he has just gotten better. He focuses on personal development and building a relationship with each client so that can reach their personal fitness goal!
Mike has been training my 17 year old son John since he was 8 years old and we couldn't be more happy with the confidence and skill John has gained. Mike is an excellent instructor, and takes personal interest and pride in his students. I would highly recommend.
Mike is a fantastic trainer! He's listens what your needs are and will customize a plan for you . He understands that training is not a one size fits all . I Highly recommended Mike for your training needs he is highly qualified in my areas. Thanks Mike
When I first met Mike at New York Sports Club, I knew INSTANTLY that this man was built differently! His techniques and dedication to his craft are unprecedented and I thoroughly enjoyed training with him. And for showing me a glimpse as to what a sage level of discipline looks like. How he blends all of his diverse fighting skillsets and molds them to his students style was something that I found so interesting about Mike. And I cannot recommend him as a teacher enough.
Mike is the best! He really customizes each class to what I am needing that day. You can tell he's passionate about his work and just wants his clients to succeed
I really enjoy working with Mike! He is knowledgeable, a good listener, and has been able to adapt, depending on my needs. I would highly recommend him!
Mike is an awesome personal trainer and knows very well how to customize the fitness training needs depending on the individual.
The best of the best!
I really enjoy the classes. It helps me to push myself harder every time!
I had my first session today and I feel great. I am certain with Mikes help and training I am going to reach all my goals. I can't wait until my next session.
As usual Mike is the number 1 trainer. I am rejuvenated after each workout because of his unpredictable and flexible style of training. I am always motivated and ready to roll. Txs Mike.
Always a great workout with Mike. Thank you.
Once again, Mike, to the rescue ! I pulled the muscle in my lower back. Lifting my laundry basket. I was able to move, but in a #6 pain level. I did not even think about canceling my ' Personal Training' session with Mike. I sent him a text, explaining what happened. He constructed a new workout routine, to help heal my back. I hurt my back on Tuesday, Friday he gave me the Routine for lower back pain. I did the routine twice a day over the weekend. Monday, I was 90 % better. He is a miracle worker! I truly Believe and Trust on my Journey. A little history. I met Mike in NJ in 2016, I believe. I was 56 years old, 220 pounds, attending Weight Watchers trying to get to my goal weight (190). I use to weigh 350. Mike showed me how to do more than just lose weight. How to Live a long, safe and tone life. Strength Training is also important. Today I am 60, Healthy & Fit ! I train with Mike twice a week. Sure I could probably watch a video on YouTube. Mike gives you his personal attention, and he genuinely wants you to succeed. I do more because, he is there, correcting me or telling me how much I have improved ! I AM WORTH THE COST. I ONLY HAVE THIS ONE BODY, TO LIVE IN
Mike really wants you to succeed with your training. He believes in me, which gives me so much encouragement. He really knows what works for your particular aliments. I started with right hip issues, the issue has changed drastically, for the better !
Mike is the best trainer I've ever worked with. He adjusts your workouts to help you reach your goals. He's even continued training online by video to adapt to the current crisis that prevents in person training.
I was not working out. With Mike's help, I got out of my chair and began working with some weights. He is very skilled working with individuals and has a great set up for his gym. He is even accommodating via video conference due to current events. I enjoy my workouts and am very strong and confident! Thanks Mike!
Individualized and accommodating. I would recommend the Fitness Tactician to anyone.
Mike is the best trainer I have ever worked with, lost close to 30lbs working with him.
Mike is the best trainer around. He really cares about his clients. He pushes you but just enough. Not over kill where you never want to come back. I look forward to our training sessions.
Mike is a really nice and friendly person. He understands my stress inside and outside of school, where he is always flexible with time. Not only that he trains me to achieve my fitness goals, but he also teaches martial art. I always look forward to the next session and would never want to miss any.
Mike Almocera has trained me for over two years. I am 58 years old. I have never been sore but I have gotten progressively stronger. Because of his background in Physical therapy and his knowledge of body mechanics and his keen observation and patience he is able to detect weaknesses, imbalances, as well as abilities and strength and use this knowledge to advance one's training. He is also cute, funny and a delight to see every week. Do yourself a favor and try to get on his schedule before he is booked up.
After training by Mike for more than 10 years, I truly enjoy his concept and help for improving my back pain lever dropped a lot plus using proper products to help my weight under control to prevent overweight caused back pain
Mike really puts the 'personal' in personal training. He not only keeps me going towards my ultimate fitness goals but constantly monitors the feedback from my body in terms of any specific pains, stiffness, etc. and continually tweaks my routine – even in the course of an individual session - to adjust to this as well as my variable work routine. I suffer from chronic back problems and since working with Mike I have almost completely gone off any medication. I now have the strength, stamina and range of motion to enjoy many outdoor activities that would have otherwise been difficult before, and it keeps getting better.
I highly recommend Mike. very motivational, cheerful, also very patience. Really takes the time to know you and at the same time Will give you plenty of advices on what works better for your physical health. I'm very happy with my results!!
